OBITUARY

Stanley M. Gewanter of Tallahassee, Florida died peacefully on March 14th two weeks before his 88th birthday. He was an accomplished and respected civil trial attorney in his professional life, but also demonstrated his family commitment to Tikkun Olum (repairing the world) in many ways, saving lives as an EMT with a volunteer ambulance corps., serving as an auxiliary police officer in Nassau County, and as President of the Suffolk Chapter of the NYCLU. He loved sailing, golf, tennis, classical music and opera, and a good meal. He moved to Florida after the death of his beloved wife Elsa “Elly” Gewanter in 2014. He leaves his daughters Shari Gewanter (wife Joanna Gewanter) and Barrie Gewanter (partner Lisa Levens), his brother Kenny Gewanter (Susan), and sister Judy Berkowitz (Marvin), along with a nephew, several nieces, and cousins. He was also predeceased by his brother Joel Gewanter, father William “Bill” Gewanter, and mother Sylvia Gewanter Zaslav, and mother-in-law Sydney Jakobsons. A graveside service will be held in New Montefiore Cemetery in West Bablyon, NY on Monday March 18th at 11:30 AM.
