Dear Cousin
When I texted you on your birthday in February and you texted me back, I didn’t know that was going to be the last time that we would hear from each other. You told me you were having a great day. That your brothers were visiting and that you were eating good food, ice cream, and cake. “Yum !!”
you said. Thanks to your wonderful family, you had a really nice birthday.
Cousin, I remember the trips you took to California when we were in our teens back in the 70’s. We went to the movies, and hung out by the pool in the backyard, and went to the shopping center, and hung out in the house and talked a lot, and did a lot of other things that I can’t even remember anymore. One day, you went with me to my volunteer job and that was quite an experience. When you were in college in the early 80’s, I took a train from New York to Pennsylvania to visit you. That was fun. And, on another trip you made to LA years later, Darlene and I took you to an Italian restaurant with singing waitresses and waiters. I had wanted to take you to a memorable restaurant , but I forgot about your headaches and the singing made it worse. I’m sorry.
You had an impressive life, Robert. I wish I could write the way that you could write. To write a book is something that I wish I had the ability to do, but I know that I don’t . You wrote books. You wrote magazine articles. You were an advocate for people with disabilities. You traveled.
Robert, for the words you used to change attitudes and for all that you did in your life, I’m proud that you are my cousin.
Mark
I wish we had more time together. You always got the movies before I did with your other friends. Thanks for the time together – rest in peace my friend. Donna
Cousin Robert,
I’m going to miss your random “Hey Cuz” via FB messenger and how you always reached out asking about my wellbeing when crazy things were happening in Cali..
Although, I’m horrible at keeping in touch, I hope you knew how much I appreciated your concern and late night FB messages.
I remember how much you loved chocolate and Taco Bell!
Dear Cuz, as you would say to me 🙂
RIP , may your next journey treat you well and I hope this next chapter will be kinder too you.
All my love,
Michele
