OBITUARY
Peter Howard Edelstein
November 21,1954 – September 4, 2026
Peter Howard Edelstein passed away at home on Friday, September 4th at the age of 71 after a courageous battle with Pancreatic Cancer. He fought with both determination and grace.
Peter was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He brought love, comfort, laughter, and meaning into the lives of all those fortunate enough to know him. He will be remembered for his integrity, kindness, generosity, humility, patience, sense of humor, and the many ways that he made his friends and family feel cared for.
Born on November 21, 1954 in Brooklyn, NY, Peter was the beloved son of Herbert and Sylvia Edelstein. Peter attended The State University of New York at Buffalo where he met his wife, Beth and earned both a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering and a Master’s Degree in Transportation Planning. Peter’s career began in Boston working in the field of transportation planning for the elderly and handicapped. While working full-time Peter attended Bentley College in the evenings, where he earned an MBA in Marketing. Subsequently, he transitioned to Product Marketing and worked in telecommunications and networking, ranging from the dawn of commercial modems to the proliferation of fiber and wifi; later moving on to biometric scanning and robot motion planning in the greater Boston area. In early retirement, he took a seasonal position for five years at the IRS in Andover.
Together, Beth and Peter raised two children and eventually settled in Andover, Massachusetts. Peter made an indelible mark on their children’s lives, as an active father, assistant coach, and with his famous “Daddy Adventures”. He encouraged their aspirations, shared his expertise and wisdom on everything from finance and decision making, to lawn care and laundry. When he became a grandfather, he sought to teach his granddaughters about finance as well, with his “Win PopE’s Money” game. As Peter and Beth looked ahead towards retirement, a beloved home on Cape Cod was purchased. Peter became very involved in the neighborhood association, where he held various positions for a number of years. Many, many fun times were had with friends and family on the Cape. Upon retirement they settled in Sarasota, Florida as snowbirds, returning to Cape Cod in the summers.
Peter always loved sports, a lifelong Yankees fan who would later embrace all things Boston when they weren’t playing the Yankees! He was an avid tennis player, president of the Andover Tennis Association for several years and enjoyed developing many lasting friendships with fellow players. With his passion for finance and financial responsibility, he
became an active investor and upon retirement a loyal member of the Lakewood Ranch Financial Forum where he also made many friends. Peter’s family and his Jewish heritage were always very important to him. Throughout the years, he devoted much time and energy as part of a core group, serving in vital leadership roles to establish and grow a synagogue, Congregation Beth Israel of the Merrimack Valley in Andover, Massachusetts. He found deep joy in connecting with its members, both young and old.
Peter is survived by his wife, Beth Edelstein, eldest son Adam and his wife Jennifer, son Jason and his wife Meredith and their children, twin granddaughters Hannah and Clara, his beloved sister Marion Santiago and her husband Richard, and brother in-law Steven Shapiro, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Though Peter is no longer with us in person, his love and memory will live on forever in the hearts of all who loved him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
