OBITUARY

Mortimer “Morty” Rockower was born on January 28, 1927, in Brooklyn, NY, to Samuel and Gussie Rockower. The youngest of four siblings (Irving, Yale, and Adele), Morty spent his childhood surrounded by his loving family and working in his father’s bar in Williamsburg. Before turning 18, he enlisted in the United States Navy to help support and defend his country during World War II. He served on the USS Saratoga in the Pacific Theater, working in the hospital’s infirmary. Morty was honorably discharged when the war ended and then went on to attend college at the University of Miami. After graduation, he returned to New York to be with his family.

He later met and married the love of his life, Marietta, to whom he was happily married for 62 years. Morty was a devoted husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend. He loved his Miami Hurricanes, New York Mets, and New York Jets, but what he loved most was his family. He always said that his family was his greatest accomplishment and what he wanted to be remembered for. He passed away peacefully on December 21, 2025, at 98 years old, surrounded by his loving family.

He is survived by his loving wife, Marietta; his daughters, Samantha and Rona; his sons-in-law, Mark and Steven; his 10 grandchildren: Alexandra, Jacob and Madison, Matthew and Lindsay, Victoria and Ryan, Maximillian, Elizabeth, and Parker; and his great-granddaughter, Fredi Rose.
