OBITUARY

Julius (Julie) Glassman, 95, of Poughkeepsie, NY, died at home, surrounded by family, on April 10.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; his daughters Ellen (Nick) Gidaro, Beth (Paul) Arnold, and Audrey (Michael) Vernick; Barbara’s children Steven (Caryn) Breslow, Pamela (Brian) Quinn, and Larry (Barbara) Breslow; grandchildren Sam, Jack (Courtney), Ben, Jeremy (Melanie), Sophie (Jordan), Jacob (Katya), Anna, Ben, Dahlia, Brendan, Michael, Brian, and Dylan; great-grandchild Cooper; and sisters Eleanor Langberg and Arlene Leifer. He was predeceased by wife Judy and his sister Marlene.

A Bronx childhood led him to William H. Taft High School and a stint in the Army during the Korean War. He played baseball in both.

He and Judy raised their family in Whitestone, Queens. Their home was the site of innumerable family celebrations that evolved into an annual slugball tournament with a line of old and young handball players extending up 23rd Avenue. Describing himself as twice lucky, he remarried and became a Poughkeepsie resident, where he was active as a mentor for SCORE and playing tennis with friends at Cross Court. He and Barbara intrepidly traveled the world.

A lifelong Cubs fan, he promised his young daughters that when the team made it to the World Series, he would take them. In 2016, they were at Wrigley to cheer the team on.

He was loved for his sweetness, generosity and humor.

When you met him—his eyes and smile radiated love and warmth. And that will last forever.
