OBITUARY
Heather Lynne Kamen, 83, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2025. Born on September 13, 1942, she was the beloved daughter of Violet and Daniel “Doc” Kamen.
Heather grew up in New York City and attended Walton High School. After graduating, she continued her education at Boston College before transferring to Boston University. Her years in Boston left a lasting impression, including a lifelong love of the Boston Red Sox.
Following college, Heather returned to New York City, where she began her career as an elementary school teacher before becoming a guidance counselor. Even after “retiring” from teaching, Heather’s love of education endured. With the encouragement and support of her cousin Geoffrey, she embarked on a second career teaching ESL and remedial reading at Manhattan Community College and then Hunter College—work she truly cherished.
Heather shared many wonderful years with her lifelong partner, Henry “Hank” Weiss. Together they traveled the world, fulfilling one of Heather’s greatest passions. After Hank’s passing, Heather was fortunate to find love again with Mike Melendez, and they spent the final years of her life together, creating meaningful memories.
Heather’s passions were many and distinctive. She adored her beloved dog, Brisa, had a deep love for horses, delighted in travel, and was never without her fondness for the color pink. She was also a devoted fan of Barry Manilow and was thrilled to see him perform in concert one last time last year.
Heather was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by her family and friends, including her sister Roxanne “Roxie” Kamen Loewentheil and her niece Jolie Eldridge, as well as the many lives she touched through her kindness, curiosity, and generosity of spirit.

Hard to believe that Heather is no longer with us . I met heather at the gym 3 years ago . Our friend Julie and I would affectionately call her Bagel Heather (Heather enjoyed her bagel and coffee after the gym ).
I will cherish our coffee chats. It was a pleasure knowing Heather.
Bagel Heather , may you rest in peace .
Heather was a client of mine at New York Sports Club in Manhattan. We shared a name so we also shared a kinship. She was so kind as to share a flight credit with me that she had earned and knew she wasn’t going to use. It helped me get to California to celebrate Christmas with my family in California back in 2023. I’ll never forget that.
I am so sorry to hear of Heather’s passing – she was my friend and neighbor for years and I am saddened. She was a very kind and giving person and will be missed greatly. So very sorry – Harriet B.
