I regret that I have been traveling, and missed the news of Harvey’s passing.
On behalf of the H. D. Smith company and family, let me extend our deepest sympathies. Harvey was not only instrumental to the expansion of H D Smith into the New York metro area, he was a trusted friend and advisor to the entire management team, and especially my brother Dale, who preceded him in death.
Harvey lived life to the fullest, and cherished his family across the generations. We will miss him.
Sincerely,
Chris Smith
H. D. Smith
This is Deborah Smith, wife of Dale Smith. I just learned of Harvey’s death and want to send my sincerest, deepest condolences to Harvey’s family. Harvey was loved by Dale and me, and by our daughter Chandler. When he would call our home looking for Dale, if Chandler or I answered the phone we were always tickled by him saying “Hello, Deborah (or Chandler), this is Harvey, Harvey Tanenbaum.” We laughed because his booming voice and distinct New York accent made it unnecessary for him to go past “Hello, Deborah (or Chandler)” for us to recognize him. He had us at hello! We also enjoyed dinners shared with Harvey in Springfield, as well as dinners in New York City with Harvey and Carol, and one time Nicole as well. Harvey was a very special man and I am grateful to have known him. He will remain among my most cherished memories.
