COHEN – Stanley G., 94, of Melville, N. Y. died peacefully at home September 8, 2022. Dr. Stanley G. Cohen was founder and, for more than forty years, the distinguished, first president of Five Towns College located in Dix Hills, N.Y. He is survived by his beloved wife Patricia Johanssen Schmidt. His loving first wife Lorraine Kleinman Cohen predeceased him in 2004. Dr. Cohen is also survived by their sons Martin Cohen and David Cohen and daughter Janet Kaplan, 5 grandchildren, 1 great-grandson and dear sister, Aileen Mauer of Clermont, Florida. Prior to establishing Five Towns College, Dr. Cohen had a dedicated twenty-five year career as a New York City music teacher and administrator. A graduate of New York University and Queens College of the City of New York, he held a Bachelors, a Masters and a Doctoral degree in Music Education. A talented clarinetist and saxophone player, Stanley performed with bands in the club date business on weekends and during summers at Catskill mountain resorts from the 1950’s through the 1970’s. Stanley always had a song for every circumstance and near the end of his long, accomplished life it was Frank Sinatra’s version of “That’s Life”. Dr. Cohen was laid to rest at Mt. Ararat Cemetery.
