OBITUARY

Donald Schwartz, beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully on April 27, 2026, at the age of 88. Born on August 15, 1937, Donald lived a full and meaningful life defined by devotion to family, integrity in his work, and kindness toward others.

Donald is survived by his cherished wife of 65 years, Gloria; his loving daughters, Ellen Baum and Andrea Turbin, her husband, Philip; and his adored grandchildren, Scott, Elissa (her fiance, Dillon) and Matthew. His family was the center of his world, and he took immense pride and joy in each of them.

Raised in the Bronx, Donald attended DeWitt Clinton High School before earning his undergraduate degree from New York University and his law degree from Brooklyn Law School. He dedicated over four decades of his professional life to the Office of Chief Counsel for the IRS, where he was respected for his intelligence, integrity, and commitment. Following his retirement, he continued his legal career in private practice.

Donald was a lifelong and devoted fan of the New York Yankees, rarely seen without his Yankees cap and he loved a day spent at Yankee Stadium enjoying a hot dog and a game. He also enjoyed attending live shows and concerts at the local park or in his clubhouse. Classic war films were also a favorite pastime. A proud “girl dad,” he delighted in sharing laughs and indulging his daughters, especially during their shopping adventures.

Deeply spiritual, Donald found meaning and comfort in his faith and in living a life guided by strong values. Above all, he was a kind and compassionate man who saw the good in others and treated everyone with warmth and respect.

In their later years, Donald and Gloria became snowbirds, splitting their time between East Meadow, New York, and Delray Beach, Florida. Donald loved Florida life—often joking about wearing shorts year-round—and found joy in nature, especially walking and photographing wildlife in the wetlands of Wakodahatchee and Green Cay.

Donald was also a devoted and loving caregiver to Gloria as her memory and cognitive abilities declined. He cared for her with unwavering love and fierce protectiveness. When her needs required a transition to memory care, it was an emotional time for him, yet he faced it with strength and devotion.

In Florida, Donald found comfort in a warm and supportive community of friends and neighbors who enriched his life with companionship and kindness. He enjoyed playing bocce, attending shows, and staying active and engaged. He fondly referred to his time there as “summer camp,” surrounded by dear friends before returning to New York each year.

Donald’s family takes comfort in knowing that he passed away in a place he loved, following another happy season in Florida.
His legacy of love, kindness, and devotion to family will live on in all who knew and loved him. May his memory be a blessing.
