OBITUARY

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Charles Mayer, who died peacefully at the age of 85 on the evening of April 25, 2026, with his family by his side after a long illness.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, on August 27, 1940, to Samuel and Sadie Mayer, Charles was a beloved son and older brother to his sister, Etta. He grew up in Brooklyn and graduated from Brooklyn College with a degree in English. After starting his career in computer programming, Charles made a mid-life change, finding his true calling in sales. For 20 years, he was a familiar and friendly face at P.C. Richard & Son. A friend to all who walked through the doors, he built a loyal following of repeat customers who sought him out specifically. He retired in 2025.

A man of many passions, Charlie was a lifelong, die-hard New York sports fan, inheriting a love for the Rangers, Knicks, Giants, and Yankees. He was a voracious reader in his younger years, a passion that later evolved into a love for television and movies. He loved nothing more than basking in the sun, whether it was laying out in his driveway or at the local pool.

In 1964, Charles married his devoted wife, Judith (Greenstein) Mayer. Together, they built a life filled with love and raised three children: Gary, Randy, and Kimberley. The family moved from Brooklyn to East Meadow, New York, in 1976, which would remain his home.

Above all, Charles was a family man. Nothing brought a bigger smile to his face than the sight of his grandchildren. He will be remembered for his gentle nature, his steadfast love for his family, and his quiet strength.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Judith; his children, Gary (Fran), Randy (Christine), and Kimberley (Stephen); his adoring grandchildren, Jake, Stephanie, Ava, Scott, and Ella; his sister, Etta; and a lifetime of friends and memories.
