OBITUARY

In Loving Memory of Barry Leif z”l June 20, 1933 – December 14, 2025

Barry Leif, born on June 20, 1933, in Brooklyn, New York, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the family he cherished so deeply. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 68 years, Betty; his beloved sons Jeffrey (Beverly) and Frederic (Lori); four treasured grandchildren—Alex, Rebecca, Ryan, and Ruby—and his dear sister Roberta. Each will carry forward his memory, holding close the love, gentleness, and quiet strength he shared with them throughout his life.

Barry served his country with honor in the United States Army, stationed in Enewetak Atoll in the Bikini Islands during Operation Hardtack, a U.S. series of nuclear tests. For his courage and sacrifice under extraordinary conditions, he was formally recognized as an Atomic Veteran, receiving a special medal honoring those who served in this vital and challenging chapter of American history.

After returning home, Barry graduated from NYU and embarked on a remarkable career in public accounting. Through steadfast integrity, unwavering work ethic, and natural leadership, he rose to become the managing partner of the firm where he spent his entire professional life—an achievement nearly unheard of today. He earned the admiration, trust, and affection of colleagues and clients alike, and his contributions extended far beyond his firm. Throughout the years, he was honored by numerous professional organizations for his service and dedication to the field.

Barry’s generous spirit reached well beyond his profession. Deeply committed to his faith and community, he was active in many Jewish organizations and was honored multiple times, including by Israel Bonds—an honor his father, Reuben, also received. Known for his instinctive kindness and willingness to help anyone in need, Barry touched countless lives and left an enduring impact on all who were fortunate enough to know him.

He was a man of many passions. When he wasn’t traveling the world with his beloved Betty, he found great joy in photography—capturing moments with the same care, patience, and thoughtfulness he brought to every aspect of his life. In retirement, he reveled in time spent with his family and grandchildren, in nurturing friendships, and in the peaceful, fulfilling days of his Florida community. These were years richly deserved after a lifetime of giving so much of himself to others.

Warm, principled, and endlessly supportive, Barry will be remembered as a man who lived with purpose and gave with an open heart. His legacy of service, compassion, and love will continue to guide and inspire his family, his friends, and all those whose lives he touched.

May his memory be a blessing.
