OBITUARY
In Loving Memory of Alba Friedman Tutnauer (Born Alba Lee Friedman)
[September 22nd, 1935 – January 26th, 2026]
Alba Friedman Tutnauer, a devoted wife, loving mother of three daughters, cherished grandmother, and an extraordinary woman, passed away peacefully on January 26th with her beloved husband, Robert (Bob) Tutnauer, by her side. She was 90 years old.
Born on September 22nd, 1935, in Brooklyn, New York, Alba lived a life defined by warmth, community, and an unwavering love for her family. She was the heart of her home and a light to all who knew her.
Alba was known for her compassion, wisdom, and genuine care for others. She had a gift for listening, nurturing, and bringing people together; and her impact reached far beyond her family.
From her work for the city of New York Department of Labor to her passionate involvement with Hevreh of Southern Berkshires, Alba’s devotion to supporting others was unwavering. To know her was to feel her love.
Bob certainly felt her love when he saw her for the first time on the steps of Boylan Hall at Brooklyn College in her Red Loden Coat. The two met in 1953 and married in 1956.
As a couple, Alba and Bob shared a love for traveling, having visited all seven continents of the world. Together they raised three daughters, Deborah; married to Paul Greenberg; Elizabeth; married to Garth Rose; and Jennifer; married to David Karofsky. They built a life rooted in love, laughter, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Alba’s love transcended generations and will not soon be forgotten.
One of her greatest joys was being a grandmother to Braxton, married to Meghan Rose; Teagan, and her partner Ethan Dupuis; Faith, married to Joseph Blodgett; Adam, married to Ashley Karofsky; Kat; and Lily. She treasured every moment spent with them—whether through stories, shared snacks, or simply being together. She was also blessed to be a great-grandmother to Max, Grayson, Moses, Lincoln, Owen, and Freya. Her love will continue to live on through all of them.

Alba was a beautiful woman who adored her husband, her children and all her grandchildren. When Alba smiled, the room lit up. We will miss you Alba. Leny
Our deepest sympathies to your whole family. Alba was a very sweet lady and certainly loved her family.
Fondly

Alba lived near me in Brooklyn when we were high school students. So i would visit her often & came to love her, Then she was a part of our 7:Just A Bunch of Girls (aka: the JABOGS!). Alba was the sensible one; organized & aware. She met Bob (who i already knew thru grade school; campaigned for him to be school Pres.!) & they became the cutest couple: outside & inside. Alba was a sincere person; not given to sentiment or hyperbole: so when she spoke it was always worthwhile. i loved her quiet & her laugh & her freckles. Always felt that she was rock solid compared to emotional me. We had GOOD times together and i shall never ever forget her…..
I am so sorry for your loss. May her memory be a blessing. Sending big hugs
So sorry to hear. I have many fond remembrances of Alba and her joy, smile, warmth and friendliness to us Hayes Pond neighbors. In addition to my memories, seeing her friendship with both of my parents, Sy and Leah Karpen, was a real joy and frankly, a blessing. Many decades of warm Otis memories with Bob and Alba. Her memory will be cherished.
Beloved congregant of Hevreh of Southern Berkshire, our neighbor in Otis,Alba will be missed
Her light will continue to shine embedded in her love, warmth & caring for family, friends .
May her memory be a blessing. She was loved
Very sorry for Alba’s passing.
Bob,
You know how Artie and I felt about you and Alba. We were only sorry we didn’t meet you earlier to share more laughter. We couldn’t be with you at the funeral as I have our own family medical emergencies going on. I hope when you return to the Berkshires, we can have a cup o coffee and enjoy each other’s company.
Sending much love to you and your wonderful family.
