OBITUARY

Alayne J. Raskin

Alayne J. Raskin, 79, of Bayport, New York, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2026, surrounded by the family she loved so deeply.

Born on May 28, 1947, in Brooklyn, New York, Alayne lived a life centered around the people she loved most. She met the love of her life, Lawrence “Larry” Raskin, when they were high school sweethearts. On May 30, 1969, they married and began a life together that would span more than five decades. Together, they built a beautiful family and a lifetime of memories.

Alayne was completely selfless and always wanted what was best for her family. She spent her life putting the needs of others before her own and was always worried about being a burden to her children. She was always there for her children, no matter what they needed, and made sure they always knew how much they were loved. She never ended a conversation without saying “I love you,” and she never let her children leave without a kiss goodbye and a reminder to “call me when you get home.” These were simple things, but they were Alayne’s way of making sure her family always felt her love and knew they were cared for. She treated everyone she met with kindness, compassion, and respect, and made people feel cared for simply by being herself.

Her family was her entire world. She was the devoted mother of Kimberly (Roger) and Meredith (Lou), and an adoring grandmother to Jace and Gianna. Her bond with Jace was especially precious. The two shared an incredibly close relationship and loved spending time together. They would binge-watch television shows, go to the movies, bowl, and take on every insane ride they could find at Disney and Universal. Many weekends included sleepovers, and Jace took every opportunity he could to be with his grandma. Their nightly FaceTime calls were another special part of their relationship and brought Alayne so much happiness.

Alayne found joy in the simplest things. She loved finding a good bargain and looked forward to her Wednesday trips to Carvel. She was beautiful inside and out and took great pride in taking care of herself. She was always dressed fashionably and classically, with her makeup on and looking her best. She was often mistaken for being many years younger, something that always made her smile.

Alayne was also incredibly hardworking and dedicated to her career. She spent more than 30 years with HUB International Northeast, where she served as Assistant Vice President. Her relationships with her clients were especially meaningful to her. Many of those professional relationships grew into some of her closest and most cherished friendships, lasting well beyond the business relationship. She worked full-time until the end, a testament to her dedication and to how determined she was to provide her children with a strong foundation and a secure future.

Alayne was the loving daughter of Norma and the late Melvyn, and a cherished sister to Sharrin (Benes), Laurie (the late Ken), Jay (Laura), and Andrea (Mike). She was a beloved aunt to her niece and nephews, and a great-aunt to her great-niece and great-nephews, all of whom held a special place in her heart.

Alayne will be missed more than words can ever express. Her love, kindness, selflessness, strength, and the countless memories she created with the people she loved will live on in all of us. While our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that she is in heaven, reunited with Larry, the love of her life, and finally dancing with him again.

She will be loved and missed forever. ❤️

Dear Meredith and Kim:

I was very sorry to hear that your mom passed away. She had a spirit that I didn’t see in a lot of people. Conversations amongst the Raskin cousins always mentioned how grateful we were that your dad initially, and then your mom, got us all together again.

It was a gift and a memory I will cherish always. The day your mom and dad hosted us in their home where we sat for most of the afternoon reminiscing and trying to figure out who belonged to who from the old days. It was a great day of shared love and happiness that we were together.

May your memories sustain you during this time. She is with Larry and at peace. You and your families are in my heart.

Dear Kimberly and Meredith,

I am so deeply sorry for the loss of your beautiful mother, Alayne. It was truly a privilege and an honor to have had the opportunity to care for her and to be there for you and your family during such a difficult and emotional time.

As one of her nurses, I came to know Alayne not simply as a patient, but as a very special woman who touched my heart in ways I will never forget. She was my little diva, always making sure she was looking her best, especially with that beautiful rose-gold nail polish. Those little details are the things that stay with you and bring a smile even through the sadness.

I will also never forget how Alayne somehow managed to make me a lemon-ice lover! Because of her, lemon ices have officially become my dessert of choice. It may seem like such a small thing, but those little memories are exactly what make someone unforgettable. Every time I have a lemon ice, I know I will think of her and smile.

Caring for Alayne and being alongside your family during her transition was something I will carry with me for the rest of my life. There are certain patients and families who leave a lasting impression on a nurse’s heart, and your family is absolutely one of them.

You welcomed me into such an intimate and difficult chapter of your lives, and somehow, even in the midst of so much sadness, you made me feel like part of your family. I hope you know how much that meant to me. I felt the love you had for your mother so deeply, and it was an honor to witness the bond you shared with her.

I hope you find comfort in knowing that Alayne was surrounded by love, compassion, and people who cared deeply about her. I am grateful that I was able to be one of those people and to help care for her during such an important part of her journey.

Alayne truly left a print on my heart. Although I was her nurse, she became so much more than a patient to me. She became someone I will remember, someone who made me laugh, someone who taught me little things I will carry with me, and someone whose memory will always hold a very special place in my heart.

Please know that I will remember your mother with so much love and fondness. And whenever I see that beautiful rose-gold polish or sit down with a lemon ice, I will think of my little diva, Alayne.

May you both find peace and comfort in all the beautiful memories you shared with your mother, and may her love continue to surround you always.

With my deepest sympathy, love, and heartfelt condolences,

Jennifer Goldring

When we first met both your parents something just clicked like we had known them forever. Your father was the extra fun one but your mom was the quiet gentle one who just made you smile was always making sure you were having a good time and made you feel so special. They were hysterical playing canasta together Larry was a great card player and so patient with mom. Love like theirs is rare. Alayne loved her family so much and left the most precious legacy behind by raising 2 incredibly strong women who also loved and cared for her when she got sick with such love and devotion. We will miss her forever but she is definitely back her Larry💕💕

My heart breaks for you, Kim, and for your wonderful family, on the loss of your beautiful Mom. She was such a loving, giving person. I will never forget that Thanksgiving my Mom and I spent with your family. Your Mom was so attentive to my Mom, and was genuinely concerned for her comfort. Her compassion touched me deeply. Perhaps our Moms are at a banquet together once again. Your Mom will be deeply missed.❤️💕❤️💕

Lanie and I knew each other since we were kids. Her Uncle Ronnie was married to my sister and the families would get together often. My heart goes out to her children and her siblings, Jay, Sharrin, Andrea and Laurie. She was a beautiful person, inside and out.

I was a fellow patient with Alayna and it was like the universe bought us together, she had bought a sloth she wanted to donate to a patient and the nurse was insistent on me keeping the sloth. When Kim came to the room to introduce herself we realize how crazily and scarily similar me and Alayna were; from us being geminis, to everything we liked and disliked, like our hatred of the sun, exercise but love for sweets! We were both what we needed during treatment and the universe bought us together for a reason, even though we didn’t spend much time together it felt like we knew each other for years. In different ways we showed each other how to be strong and carry out treatment. I will always have Alayna the sloth to remember her by and our journey together 💔💔

I had the honor and privilege of working with Alayne for over 10 years. She became a friend and an inspiration to me. She was incredibly kind and thoughtful and so funny. We became closer after she lost Larry. I had lost my partner a few years before and she knew that I understood the significance of that type of loss. We would speak everyday, and talk about what it meant to go on after losing your partner. I left the country two years ago, but we stayed in touch. When I heard of her illness, I was heartbroken. Why her? I prayed for her recovery, but deep inside, I knew that in her heart, she secretly thought of the grand reunion she would share with Larry. I will never forget this incredible woman. Her spirit will remain with me for the rest of my life. May she rest in peace and continue to inspire everyone she’ll encounter in the next life. With her smile, laughter and kindness, she will live on forever. I will miss you Alayne, love you always.
